When it comes to the caliber of its terrain, Jackson Hole has definitely earned a solid reputation. Its Corbet’s Couloir is recognized as being one of the most challenging in North America. Travis Rice, Tommy Moe and many other ski pros grew up here or have chosen to make it their home—and, no doubt, this resort’s amazing vertical has something to do with it. Of course, there’s also the fact that a good majority of the runs here—in other words, 50%—are considered expert trails. All in all, Jackson Hole is a great destination for carving enthusiasts looking for a good challenge. Despite catering to expert skiers, Jackson Hole definitely has something for everyone. There are trails for skiers of all levels, from the groomed beginner runs in the Apres Vous sector to the steep chutes under the Sublette chairlift. In fact, it’s not necessarily just the steepness of the resort that makes it so great, it is mostly the fact that it goes straight down all the way to the lifts: you can carve turns all the way, following the fall line on a 4,000-foot vertical drop without coming to a plateau and without having any need for poling. Now that’s what I call skiing! And, any intermediate or expert skier is sure to agree. Another great thing about Jackson Hole is the backcountry terrain. Over 3,000 acres are accessible by lift. That’s a tremendous amount, especially when you count the resort’s 2,500 on-piste acres. |
