Vancouver woman found dead near Grouse Mountain ski run

Police have confirmed a body found on Grouse Mountain Tuesday is that of a 52-year-old Vancouver woman.
North Vancouver RCMP were called out to the mountain shortly after 3 p.m. by staff who had found the body in snow and bushes about 100 metres away from the Paradise ski run.

RCMP spokesman Cpl. Richard De Jong said that, although the body was found near the local bear habitat, it was "fully intact and in no state of decomposition." The B.C. Coroners Service was called in to assist police in determining how she died. So far, "there does not appear to be any foul play involved," said De Jong in a release Wednesday.

"It appears that she may have succumbed to hypothermia." The unidentified victim was wearing hiking gear and a day pack with extra clothing, he said. "This is a tragic event and, along with the Grouse Mountain staff, we are all greatly saddened by this woman’s passing and our hearts go out to her family and friends," said De Jong.

Investigators are working to determine the woman's movements in the days leading up to her death. Her family has been notified but a name is not being released at their request, he said.
