MEC Road Bike

I am interested in purchasing a road bike, and found this at mec,

The price is quite moderate comparing to those big brands at a specialty bike shop, and customer reviews scores 4.5 of 5. I plan to use it only on paved with two things I care about

a. It has to be reliable. I am not handy and don't want fix something on the alberta roadside.
b. It has to be stable on high speed.

btw, the bike is made in Taiwan.

Is it a good buy?

Thanks guys. I have very little knowledge about biking, but quite determined to dive in. The budget request has been sent to the LD, and the earliest approval time is expected sometime in next year.

I thought Taiwan only produces volume bikes, those found at Canadian Tire or Costco. But after a little bit googling, I know i was totally wrong.

I currently have a mountain bike, but this will certainly be my first road bike (the one I bought when I was a high school student by rmb 1500 probably doesn't count). Same as you, I generally find mec guys are knowledgable on their stuff, and that's why I am interested in their bikes when I know I can find better bikes at a specialty bicycle store at much higher price.

Anyway, I will soon start sorting on my ski collection again to see if there is any chance to make a broke man a bit of richer.
