Just throwing in my two cents Nate. If this will be your first bike there are a few things you may want to know. Design of the frame is more important then anything else. Find a bike with a geometry and size that best fits you. Component wise you can always upgrade later when you brake them. Road bike components, even at an entry level are crafted with more precision in mind compare to those that're on those hundred dollars department store bike. If the person who assembly and setup your bike know what he's doing there'll be little maintainance down the road. But of course, as bp said you'll have to at least keep your drivetrain clean by cleaning your chain regularly. MEC has some of most knowledgable staff and bike mech. Won't go wrong to start there. You seems to be a little concern of where the bike is made. In fact most bike that you can buy in north america, including those big name ones are made in Tawian. In canada there're only a few canadian brand that are still made domestically. |
