Given that both Flatboarding and Pure Carving are valid skills/techniques and at the opposite end of ski skill spectrum, I thought, that question—Why can't I ski like him? — was a wrong question to ask. Wrong questions lead to wrong answers, and wrong answers lead to wrong conclusion... reread their conversation, what they said pretty much in line with what I said, you don’t have their knowledge, experience, just ski like him will not necessary makes you a “good skier” like “him.” After they talk about all different technical of ski skills, their conclusion? “No, you don’t have to ski like “him.”” Funny that.
If you wish to create your own style, just look externally for higher level skills will not take you there. One must look internally, what you like to ski, and what you capable of, then find the “Way”/the principle of skiing, practice it/the principle hard, you may make it one day. Real good skiing is not how you look, but how you feel.
