Found an old book on ski injuries entitled "Clinical Symposia" Skiing Injuries by Arthry E Ellison M.D. published Volume 29 Number 3, 1977. It is publised solely for the medical profession by CIBA, Dorval, Quebec. CiBA us a pharmaceutical compnay. There are many interesting diagrams and it talks about the various injuries sustained by skiers like boot top fracture, ACL, shoulder, ankle etc. What is interesting is that there are more injuries in powder snow than on ice.
In terms of rates - in this 1977 publication, a general injury rate of 6 per 1000 ski-man days. The rate is higher for novices than experts but there is also report that rate of experts are increasing. Women have more injuries 7.9/1000 compared to men 4.9/1000. But as expert women increases leading to lowering of women skier injuries.
