We have stopped practicing Kendo a couple years ago, to protect our “old” heads from concussion.
I got exposed to Kendo in my college Kendo club, and as a martial artist (not a fighter, nor a warrior), I have chosen a bokken/木劍 as my personal weapon (to fend off wild dogs on our long bicycle journey), and practiced mock sword fighting whenever I can.
As I practiced on my own, I do not belong to any Kendo clubs, and have no rank. By chance, when my wife practiced with Berkeley Kendo Club, I had an opportunity to partake a practice at Sensei (8 Dan Hanshi) Miyata’s Alameda dojo and received Sensei Miyata’s personal teaching, which I am forever grateful.
Now as my Kendo journey comes to an end, these video clips would be too precious to sit in my closet, so I put them on YouTube for all you Kendo enthusiasts to share, enjoy.
