Javelin turn was picked out of the moves Furer did in the movie as a great way to get the hips opened to the hill. If I remember the
movie correctly, the "story line" had something to do with Furer spiriting a pair of Hart Javelins off for an adventure or chasing after a pair that someone took away from him. Anyway, the Hart Javelin played a big part in the movie. I have no evidence that whoever actually first introduced the Javelin Turn exercise called it that after the skis in the movie

In 1965, Swiss racer Art Furrer appeared on the U.S. ski scene. Claiming that increased agility through acrobatics on skis could improve ski performance, Furrer thrilled crowds. His stunts included “the butterfly,” “the Charleston” and a crossed-ski turn called the “javelin.” Furrer’s relationship with Hart Skis and his early appearance in ski press photos performing stunts made him “the face” of the 1960s freestyle movement.
