We want to begin the control phase of most turns with at least a bit of extra tip pressure, because this makes ski turn more sharply. In the completion phase, on the other hand, we generally want the ski to stop turning, so we shift pressure back to the middle or even to the tail of the ski. This is the typical flow of fore-aft pressure in turns. In term of where the balance axis goes through your feet, the range of movement in free skiing is usually small (perhaps an inch or two, and rarely more than from the ball of the foot to the back of the arch), but in aggressive turns the range might be larger. |
