It seems like the Town of Markham wants to back out of their plan to host badminton. The facts that they would like to go after building another swimming pool (they are already building one for PAN AM), at the expense of Badminton show us that they really don’t care for badminton. Their approach shows me that they are treating Badminton like a 2nd Class Sport in Markham.
I am meeting up with some councilors tomorrow and will be requesting a meeting with all council members. In the meantime, I have done an interview with the newspaper to share our disappointment.
The newspaper will also be interviewing Vish Date who run the Angus Glen Senior clubs as well as Jennifer Lee from Lee’s Badminton.
NEED YOUR SUPPORT
The newspaper will be doing a photo shoot at BUR OAK SECONDARY School to be printed in the paper to promote badminton and insist that PAN AM for Badminton belongs in Markham. We also have a statement from Badminton Ontario and Badminton Canada that PAN AM for Badminton belongs in Markham.
I know this is really last minute, everything is happening so fast today. If anybody is available tomorrow (Tuesday, June 7, 2011), please come to BUR OAK SS at 4:30 pm to be part of the photo shoot. Please prepare to play for 30 minutes. Bring racquets and your club T-Shirt. The paper wants as many people as we can get in the picture. It is important that we have some young children in the pictures
The PAN AM motto is UNITED, WE PLAY. Today we are fighting for our right so that people will not treat badminton as a 2nd class sport è UNITED, WE WILL SUCCEED!!
